Why I Became A Financial Advisor

I wouldn’t say that a financial advisor is what I always thought I would be. No, at the young age of nine I wanted to be a veterinarian. I entered college as a biochemistry major and was on my way. Yet, as most freshmen soon find out, the dreams of childhood and the practicality of making it happen set in after a few college-level science courses! It was then when I was introduced to my first economics course. I loved it, and this was the beginning of my path to a career in finance.

Starting Out
Once I made the leap to economics at UC San Diego, I began working for a small brokerage firm which sponsored me for my broker’s license while in my junior year at college. This was my first introduction to the world of finance, markets, and the crash of 1987, Black Monday (two months after passing my certification exams). Although the experience of a market crash was unnerving, I can say this was the moment I realized what I wanted to do: help people understand their finances and not let fear manage their decisions.

Shortly after my graduation and for the next 14 years, I developed my career working for Charles Schwab as a branch manager and education specialist. Simultaneously, I furthered my education by completing my Certified Financial Planning certificate, MBA in Finance, and master’s in the Science of Financial Planning. Yes, I love education and feel it is a lifelong vocation! During these pivotal years, I not only gained hands-on experience and education, but I also learned what values were important to me and the type of work I wanted to dedicate my life to. With that in mind, I launched out on my own in 2003, founding SC Financial Services, Inc., and the rest is history.

My Career Today
SC Financial Services was created as a woman-owned advisory firm dedicated to helping busy executives and business owners work through the complexities of their financial lives. My goal was and still is to provide impartial financial advice and build long-term mutually satisfying relationships. I spend my days working to understand our clients’ goals and motivations so our services and recommendations can optimize every area of their lives: financial, personal, and professional.

Hurdles And Triumphs
As much as I love being a financial advisor, I face challenges just like everyone else. The financial regulatory environment is constantly changing and the market is unruly and unpredictable. Thankfully, there’s nothing I like more than solving problems and providing creative solutions.

Despite the challenges, I wouldn’t choose any other career. I love knowing that I help my clients sleep better at night and experience true confidence in their future. I enjoy sharing in the lives of our clients, and I’m grateful for the trust and faith they have placed in SC Financial Services. People rely on us to help guide them to their ideal future, and we do not take this responsibility lightly.

Take The Next Step
As I have said, I love being a problem-solver and peace-of-mind-maker. If you or someone you know is overwhelmed with financial complexity, afraid of making a mistake, or just looking for a second opinion, I may be able to help them. I encourage you to reach out to me today for a complimentary conversation to see how I may be able to help you. Contact me today at 480-214-9596 or info@scfinancialservices.com.
